Help Save Lives - FAB First Aid have been busy this week training 400 children ranging from 4 to 11 years at Sherwood Park Primary school in Sidcup, Kent.
The training was amazing. We had the childrens full attention throughout the class, even the 4 years olds. As well as teaching them what to do with a burn, bumps, bleeding and the all important D-R-A-B-C checklist they all loved practicing CPR on our child friendly manikins especially to the rhythm of Baby Shark. It's such fun but more importantly they are learning and soaking up the information given to remember in the future. They can even pick up the manikin and practice how to stop someone choking. Its great!
From 5 years upwards we have now added a 5 minute introduction to a defibrillator. This really gets the children's interest - but again - basic skills and knowledge that they might need in the future. As I say - it's like learning to ride a bike or telling the time.
We would like to thank Galliford Try construction company for sponsoring Sherwood Park Primary school and Oxleas NHS Foundation for organising the training. It was much appreciated all round.
